After a busy period of building works it’s almost time for Cherrybrook to open its doors. But we couldn’t let this moment pass without sharing our story so far – the hard work it has taken to restore the building – and our vision to create a care home that truly makes a difference.
First on the list were structural improvements to the building. Before taking over the home it had been empty for some time, and as such, certain works were required to ensure it was compliant with fire safety and structural regulations.
Prior to owning the building we knew that the fire stopping precautions throughout the home were not up to the standard we require. This meant that the ceilings had to come down to investigate and resolve the issue – before installing relevant fire stopping materials to keep the home compliant with fire safety standards. During this process, it was discovered that some structural metalwork also needed replacing. These works combined have resulted in extensive building work that has taken 10 months to complete – no mean feat – but one we are delighted to have finished – with Cherrybrook now meeting all required safety standards.
Next on the list – a big clean-up and decorating project. Naturally, the extensive building works had taken their toll on the interior, and the team has been working hard to repair ceilings following the structural works. Ensuring that Cherrybrook feels like home, the bedrooms have also been redecorated with a fresh lick of paint, as well as replacing carpets following the restoration of the building.
Once the home is open to residents, Cherrybrook’s bedrooms will be fresh and inviting – offering a peaceful and private space for residents to call their own – complemented by comfortable lounges and dining rooms designed for socialising. The home will also feature a hairdressing salon to inspire a sense of community along with landscaped gardens where residents can spend time together outdoors. Not only will the home offer a comfortable and safe setting in which to live, we are committed to fostering a sense of purpose, through meaningful activities and person-centred care.
Martin Deakin, Commissioning Operations Manager, said, “Although it has been hard work getting Cherrybrook to this point, we are thrilled to be opening the site. Our main priority has always been to serve the local community as soon as possible – and we are almost there! Opening the doors soon will be a glorious milestone to have reached and we are excited to show you more, as we welcome our residents into their new home”.
