Two women sitting at a wooden table in a café, smiling and laughing. One is wearing a light blue uniform with a care home logo and glasses, while the other is draped in a grey coat with a fur-trimmed collar, wearing purple glasses and a teal top. A plate with crumbs and a muffin in a metal holder is visible on the table, and the orange seating and wooden décor of the café are in the background

For many people, getting out and about is an enjoyable and rewarding part of life and our residents at Cherrybrook Care Home are no different. Regular outings give them the chance to experience new things, feel connected to their local community and uplift their wellbeing.

We particularly enjoy our visits for tea and cake at our favourite local cafe, Java Joes. With members of our care team accompanying them, residents have the opportunity to relax, enjoy a change of scenery, and soak up some cafe culture as they spend some time out, doing things they enjoy.

Why are these outings so important?

  • Outings and day trips create fresh experiences and bring a change of pace to residents’ routines. This is important as it helps us to feel a sense of purpose and enjoyment in our day-to-day life.
  • New environments can have a positive effect on mood, reducing feelings of isolation and lifting spirits. It’s also good to get outside and enjoy fresh air and natural light, which also offer mood boosting benefits.
  • Regardless of our level of mobility, a change of environment offers physical stimulation that is great for both our physical and mental health.
  • Interacting with other people during outings helps residents form meaningful connections outside the care home, keeping a link with the local community that is good for our emotional wellbeing.

At Cherrybrook Care Home our team makes sure that residents have regular opportunities to engage with the world around them. These outings are an important part of the care we provide, creating enriching experiences that bring joy, purpose, and a sense of connection to our residents’ lives.

If you’d like to join us for any of our activities or find out more, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

A collage of four photos featuring elderly residents enjoying a tea outing. One image shows a smiling elderly man holding a chocolate muffin, seated on an orange and black sofa. Another image shows an elderly woman in a red blouse and dark cardigan, happily holding a plate of caramel-topped biscuits. A third photo features the same woman playfully sticking her tongue out alongside two caregivers, all smiling. The final image captures a close-up of tea being poured into a white teacup, with a spoon resting on the saucer. Delicate floral decorations frame the collage.
